The York University women's basketball team competed against the Queen's Gaels and fell 80-64 at Athletics & Recreation Centre in Kingston, Ont.

The Gaels picked up a seven-point lead on the Lions midway through the first quarter. Despite the deficit, the Lions added eight consecutive points to lead the Gaels 15-14.
Lauren Golding made a jump shot to increase the Lions lead on the Gaels. The Gaels nearly tied the game, however one last jumper by
Haley Bowie allowed the Lions to lead the Gaels 19-18 by the end of the first quarter.

The Lions kept the game close at the start of the second, however the Gaels went on a run and led the Lions 29-21 midway through the quarter. After a free throw by the Gaels, and a jump shot by
Katrina Collins-Samuels, the Lions ended the first half trailing 35-27.

The Gaels had a strong third quarter adding 29 points compared to the Lions who added 19, to pick up a 64-46 lead by the end of the quarter. Despite the Lions outscoring the Gaels 18-16 in the fourth quarter Queen's held on to the lead and the game 80-64.

The Gaels had significant advantages at the free throw line (70.4%), making 19 out of 27 free throws, and picked up 53 rebounds throughout the game.Â

Haley Bowie earned 16 points, four rebounds, and one steal, while
Katrina Collins-Samuels had 15 points, three rebounds, and five assists to lead the way for the Lions The Gaels were led by Marianne Alarie who earned 22 points, three rebounds, and one assist.

The Lions are back in action on Feb. 8 to face the Carleton Ravens at Tait Mackenzie Centre. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm.
