The York University men's volleyball team were defeated 3-1 by the McMaster Marauders on Sunday afternoon at Burridge Gymnasium in Hamilton, Ont.

The Lions picked up an early 1-0 lead on the Marauders and led throughout the entire first set. The Lions comfortably led the Marauders by six points, 23-17 near the end of the set, and despite the Marauders earning four more points, a kill my
Aleksander Grzegorczyk and an attack error by the Marauders led the Lions to take the set 25-21.

The start of the second set was a battle as both teams tied the game five times. With the set being tied 8-8,
Andriy Sozanskyy gave the Lions a 9-8 lead with a service ace. The Marauders picked up their first lead 12-11 and kept a strong lead on the Lions which led them to take the second set 25-18 to tie the game 1-1.

The Marauders were able to win the match 3-1, after leading the Lions throughout the final two sets. The Marauders won the third set 25-17 and the final set 25-19. With the win, the Marauders are still comfortably sitting in first place in the OUA West standings, while the Lions are still in a playoff position, sitting in fourth place in the OUA East standings.

Grant Lynch and
Tyler Covach each respectively earned 12 points, while Lynch earned three digs and one assist, and Covach had five digs and one assist.
Logan Mend had 39 assists, seven digs, and two points. The Marauders were led by Matt Passalent who had 23 points, and 11 digs.

The Lions will be playing at home on Feb. 16 against the Western Mustangs at Tait Mackenzie Centre in their next game. The game is scheduled to start at 3pm.
