The York University Lions women's basketball team won their second game of the weekend and last game of the regular season against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the University of Toronto with a 65-53 win.

York's Megan Macleod opened the game with a layup, giving the Lions their first two points of the quarter. The Lions'
Alysha Pinck,
Haley Bowie and
Chante Clarke were able to provide York with two points each to give the Lions an 8-0 lead over the Blues before Ariana Sider's layup was able to put the Blues on the scoreboard. Macleod was able to score another two points and
Madison Bardoel was able to secure a three-point shot to give the Lions a 13-10 lead over the Blues after one quarter. Â

Clarke was able to give the Lions six points in the second quarter as York extended their lead by outscoring the Blues 19-11 in the second frame. By the end of the half, the Lions were leading 32-21.

It was, however, in the third quarter where the Blues showed some life and were able to cut into the Lions, outscoring the visitors 19-13. Clarke was once again able to secure the most points for the Lions in the quarter with four, while Keira Parkes was able to collect nine points to help the Blues win the quarter and close the gap to 45-40.

In the final quarter, after points from
Lauren Golding, Bowie, and Clarke within the first two minutes, the Lions were able to regain their momentum and hold the lead the rest of the way to wind up with a 65-53 win.

Clarke was the top scorer for the Lions and of the game with 17 points, while Bowie had a solid game with ten points, eight rebounds and three assists. U of T's Nada Radonjic secured the most points for the Blues with 17.

The win caps off a successful weekend for the Lions as they also beat the No. 4 Ryerson Rams on Friday night 72-69 on a buzzer beater by Golding. The win clinched a playoff berth and the fifth seed in the OUA East. They will look to ride the momentum of their two wins into their first round playoff game against the Queen's Gaels on Wednesday night at the Athletics and Recreation Centre in Kingston, Ont.
