The York University women's hockey team played in their final game of the 2018-19 season and defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs 2-1 on Saturday evening at Canlan Ice Sports.

The Lions opened up the first period putting up seven shots on the Voyageurs, while the Voyageurs had six shots on goal. It wasn't until the final five seconds of the period, at 19:55, that the Lions picked up a 1-0 lead, when
Julia McLennan and
Erin Locke assisted
Tayler Murphy, who's shot beat Laurentian's goaltender, Danielle Toland.

Just over five minutes into the second period, the Lions added another goal to the scoreboard on a power play, courtesy of
Kara Washer who was assisted by team captain Gray. The Lions dominated the second period putting up a total of 16 shots on goal compared to the Voyageurs who only had seven. The Lions held onto their 2-0 lead by the end of the second period.

The Voyageurs got on the scoreboard early in the third period, at 1:40, with a goal by Myla McCormick. Despite a few more attempts, and nine more shots on goal, the Voyageurs were unable to find the back of the net.
Lauren Dubie made 21 saves in York's 2-1 win.

Prior to the game, the Lions honoured their graduating seniors in an on-ice ceremony. The players being honoured included team captain Gray, forward
Chelsea Tucker, forward
Steffei Samuel, forward
Tegan Duncan, and defender
Cynthia St-Cyr. Each player has contributed tremendously to the women's hockey program, and have made a big impact on the team over the years.

The Lions were led in goals this season by
Kelsey McHolm who scored ten goals, and also earned three assists. Gray led the team in assists with 11, and also scored three goals, while
Erin Locke has led the Lions in points with 18, earning eight goals and 10 assists.
