The York University women's volleyball team were defeated 3-0 by the Waterloo Warriors in the OUA quarterfinals on Saturday evening at Physical Activities Complex in Waterloo, Ont.

The Lions, who earned a playoff spot as the fourth-seed in the OUA East Division, were up against tough competition in the No. 4 nationally-ranked Warriors who finished in first place in the OUA West division. The Lions however, were fresh off a big five-set win against the Trent Excalibur last weekend.

The Lions were the first to earn a point at the start of the first set, however the Warriors had a strong start entering the mid-set break with a 16-8 lead. The Warriors picked up their biggest lead of the set after a service error by the Lions to lead by ten points, 20-10. Despite the Lions attempting to close the large lead, the Warriors took the first set 25-17.

Similar to the first set, the Warriors had a strong lead on the Lions entering the mid-set break leading 16-10. The Lions added eight more points, however were unable to catch up to the Warriors who took the set 25-18, and picked up a 2-0 lead.

For the first time in the game, the Lions led the Warriors early in the set, after a kill by
Kayla Clennon, a service ace by
Sarah Williams and an attack error by the Warriors gave the Lions a 3-1 lead. The Lions continued to lead, until the Warriors tied the set 7-7. The Warriors earned four consecutive points to lead the Lions 11-7.

Waterloo continued to lead the Lions, picking up a 15-11 lead just before the mid-set break, however, the Lions fought back and tied the game 15-15. The Warriors earned the next point to enter the break leading the Lions by just one-point, 16-15. The comeback attempt fell short in the second half of the set, as the Warriors picked up a late lead after five straight points, 24-18, and managed to take the final set 25-18.

Clennon led the Lions in points earning 12.5, along with six digs and one block. Williams had nine points, and seven digs, while setter
Chiara Da Silva earned 32 assists, six digs, and two points. Leading the way for the Warriors was Claire Mackenzie who earned 18 points, four digs, and two blocks.

With the loss, the Lions have been eliminated from the playoffs, and the Warriors will move on the OUA Final Four on their home court next weekend.
