The York University Lions field hockey team snapped their four-game win streak with a loss against the Toronto Varsity Blues by a score of 3-1 at Alumni Field on Sunday morning.

The Lions were coming off a win against the Western Mustangs yesterday by a final score of 3-0 in London, Ont., and wanted to remain in the win column against their rivals the Varsity Blues.

The game began pretty tense and remained goal-less following the first quarter of the game.

By the second quarter the scoring opened with a goal from the Varsity Blues' Emily Ziraldo in the 9
th minute of the second quarter. The Lions hoped to have a goal to answer the Blues but unfortunately the Blues scored their second goal from Anna Costanzo in the final minutes of the first half.

The first half ended with the Varsity Blues leading the Lions 2-0.
The Lions aimed to comeback from their two-goal deficit and came out with a strong start and prevented the Blues from scoring another goal in the third quarter.

Their pressure paid off from an unassisted goal from York's
Haley Bannister in the 9
th minute of the fourth quarter. The Lions wanted a comeback to tie the game, but unfortunately the Blues scored their third and final goal from Katie Lynes in the final minutes of the game.

The loss for the Lions comes after an impressive 25 game unbeaten streak against OUA opponents dating back to the 2017 season, a run that includes six playoff wins.

The Lions play again today at 12:30pm at Alumni Field against the Waterloo Warriors where they hope to get back into the win column.
