The York University Lions field hockey team played two games this weekend, securing a 3-1 win against the Queen's Gaels, and 0-0 tie against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
On Saturday, the Lions played the Gaels at the Back Campus Fields at the University of Toronto and scored three unassisted goals in the process.
York's
Natalie Winter scored the first goal of the game in the first period, which was followed by a goal off a penalty corner by third-year
Frankie St. Louis. Her unassisted goal resulted in a 2-0 lead for the Lions by the end of the first period.
The game didn't see another goal until the fourth period when the Gaels were able to secure their first and only goal of the game.
St. Louis brought the same scoring momentum from the first period to end off the final period with another unassisted goal.
The following day the Lions battled it out against the Varsity Blues who are the top team in the OUA this season. The game ended in a 0-0 tie, which could have seeding implications down the road as the Varsity Blues now hold the tiebreaker should the two teams finish tied in the standings.
As a result of their hard-fought weekend, York currently has a 6-1-1 record sitting in second in the OUA with a game in-hand, while Toronto remains on top with a 7-0-2 record.
The Lions will be taking their winning weekend momentum into their next game against the Western Mustangs on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Guelph, Ont.
