Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

LIONS POST SIXTH SHUTOUT OF THE SEASON IN VICTORY OVER BADGERS

Lauren Dubie recorded her fourth shutout of the season and the No. 8 nationally ranked York University Lions women's hockey team earned its sixth overall in a 3-0 victory over the visiting Brock Badgers at Canlan Ice Sports on Saturday afternoon.

The contest was also York's annual Bell Let's Talk game and the women's hockey team's annual Roar for a Cure contest, both of which added to the atmosphere at the arena.

The Lions wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Caroline Eagles potted the first goal of the game just 2:16 in for an early 1-0 advantage.

The home side extended its lead just before the midpoint of the period when Kara Washer scored her team-leading ninth of the season to make it 2-0. The score would remain that way into the first intermission.

After the Lions dominated play in the first period and outshot the Badgers 15-7, the two squads were more evenly matched in the second. Both teams posted seven shots on goal but each goal was up to the task and the game remained 2-0 in favour of the Lions heading into the final frame.

Less than five minutes into the third, team captain Erin Locke went in on a breakaway and scored a beauty, her third of the season to increase the lead to three. It would stand as the final goal of the game as the Lions cruised to another win.

Dubie stopped all 27 shots she faced in another stellar performance, while Brock's Jensen Murphy made 26 saves.

With the win, the Lions maintained their second-place standing in the OUA with a 13-6-0-1 record and 40 points.

The Lions have just four games remaining this season, beginning next weekend with a trip to northern Ontario to face the Nipissing Lakers and Laurentian Voyageurs. Puck drop is set for 5pm on Friday and 4pm on Saturday.
