The No. 9 nationally ranked York University Lions women's hockey team ended the regular season with a 1-0 defeat to the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Canlan Ice Sports.
Even with the result, the Lions finished the year ranked third in the OUA standings and will play their first playoff game in seven seasons next week.
The Lions controlled play for much of the game against the Golden Hawks, outshooting them 28-18 overall, but could not crack Laurier goaltender Cohen Myers.
The two squads played a pair of scoreless periods, and then it took until 13:01 of the third for a goal to be scored, past York netminder
Lauren Dubie and off the stick of Steph Caleca. It would stand as the only goal of the game.
The Lions finished the regular season 14-8-0-2 and will host the Waterloo Warriors in a best-of-three quarter-final series beginning next week. As the higher seeds, the Lions will have home ice advantage and will host Game 1 at Canlan Ice Sports on Wednesday night.
