The York Lions women's volleyball team saw their season come to an end Saturday night at Bob Davis Gymnasium in St. Catharines, Ont.
They dropped a 3-0 decision to the top-seeded Brock Badgers in the OUA quarter-final, losing 25-16, 25-19, and 25-14. The loss represents a fourth consecutive first round OUA playoff loss for the Lions.
Brock won the first set of the match-up 25-16. While the final score of the set was a nine-point difference, the Lions stuck with the Badgers for the majority of the set before a string of offence gave Brock the crucial opening set victory.
Jessica Reynolds led the York offence with a three-kill set.
In the second set, the Lions again kept the score close – within two points late in the set. It was 18-16 before a Brock timeout, which led to five consecutive points from the Badgers. Laura Condotta led the way with eight points through two sets, and Brock downed York 25-19 to put them on the brink.
The OUA West-winning Badgers then wrapped the game up in the third and final set, winning 25-14 to seal the straight set sweep.
Reynolds finished the game with five kills, while fellow veteran
Aleksandra Steins wrapped up her OUA career by posting 7.5 points and leading the Lions with six kills. Condotta finished the game with 12 points in the win for the Badgers.
Brock, who went 14-5 during the regular season, now heads to the final four where they will compete for a Quigley Cup.
