The York University Lions women's basketball team lost 76-71 to the Western Mustangs after going into overtime on Saturday evening in London, Ont.

The Mustangs came out charging in the first quarter, scoring 22 points against the Lions who were able to get 12 points in, four of them from veteran point-guard Katrina Collins-Samuels and another four from forward Megan Stewart.

The Lions redeemed themselves in the second quarter as York was able to get 16 points and the Mustangs trailed behind at 12. Lauren Golding opened up the quarter with a jump shot for the Lions, giving them their first two points. The Lions finished the first half behind 34-28.

The Lions brought their forceful offensive momentum into the third quarter where it was all Megans in the first five minutes of the third. Both Megan MacLeod and Stewart scored a total of 13 points, nine of them from MacLeod, with MacLeod finishing the quarter with another two points to give the Lions a one-point 54-53 lead over the Mustangs.

The fourth quarter saw the Lions ahead of the Mustangs once again with Cyanna King contributing four points in a row for the Lions, giving them a 59-57 lead and causing the Mustangs to call a timeout. Towards the end of the period, Western began to take the lead from the Lions, with a 66-61 advantage. However, Collins-Samuels put a stop to the home team's lead after nailing a three-pointer and Golding finished the quarter with a layup with 20 seconds remaining.
