The York University Lions hosted the Guelph Gryphons for their first home game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Â
Despite the best efforts of the home fans, York was unable to claw its way back into the game after going down in the first half, and ultimately fell to Guelph 72-12.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- York opened the game with a try by captain Lauryn Legerton in the seventh minute, when she sprinted through the crowd to score.
- The Gryphons, however, seized momentum after that opening Lions try, grabbing a 38–5 advantage in the first half of the game owed to excellent forward rushing and open back play.
- To open the second half, York came in strong to respond back with another try by Selena McCuaig in the 45th minute to put them back in the game. Natashia Start gave York two more points with a precise conversion.Â
