Jaden Walker and Carmen Izyk each had hat tricks of tries for the No. 2 Queen's Gaels as the nationally ranked women's rugby squad defeated the York Lions 65-14 in York's first regular season game since promotion to the OUA's top-tiered Shiels division Saturday night in Kingston, Ont.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Queen's added the first nine tries of the game over the course of the first half, building a 53-0 lead over York.
- The Lions responded to make the game 53-5 on a try from newly minted team captain Lauryn Legerton. Natashia Start then nailed her first career OUA convert to make the score 53-7.
- Izyk added two of her tries after York's first score of the match, but then York cut into the lead again on Maiyah Samson's first career OUA try. Start's second convert of the night made the score 65-14, and the score would remain that way until the final whistle.
