York University Lions football fans may experience some déjà vu Saturday afternoon at York Lions Stadium, as the Lions wrap up their 2021 season by facing the Toronto Varsity Blues for the second time this regular season.
While it will be the first game of the year between these two opponents on York's Keele campus, they did face off in the Red & Blue bowl just two weeks ago at Varsity Stadium, where the Blues picked up a 23-2 win over the Lions.
York will be aiming to avenge that loss within the friendly confines of their home stadium, while also adding a win onto their record for the 2021 season.
The Lions were not successful in achieving a victory, where they lost 48-0 to the McMaster Marauders, dropping their record to 0-5.
Avontae McKoy, a consistent piece of the Lions offence, continued his important contributions in the contest against McMaster. The first-year running back led the way with 75 rushing yards, a game high between either team.
Familiar figures were also amongst team leads defensively.
Desi Dixon Jr. added to his team lead in total tackles with six in the game, for a season total of 29.
Kevin Musai also had two quarterback sacks.
The Blues didn't fare any better against their OUA West opponents, also losing 48-0. Their opponents, the Guelph Gryphons, limited the Toronto offence to just 199 total yards.
These two teams will meet at 1 pm on Saturday, Oct. 30. Fans attending the game can look forward to a pre-game ceremony honouring the graduating class for this year's team members playing their final games as a member of the red and white.
