The York University Lions women's hockey team hosted the Nipissing Lakers in their second of back-to-back matchups and fell by a score of 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Canlan Ice Sports.
Despite directing 29 shots on goal, the Lions were shut out by the No. 10 nationally ranked Lakers for the second consecutive game after dropping a Friday night contest at Nipissing 6-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lakers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, opening the scoring at 2:57. Malory Dominico took a pass from Madison Desmerais and shot it past Lions netminder Julianna Thomson to make the score 1-0.
- Not long after, Madison Laberge notched her first goal of the season with an unassisted goal on the power play at 10:45.
- Coming off a Friday night hat trick against York, Maria Dominico added another multi goal performance on the road. She had two goals in the third period, scoring at 1:05 and 13:34 to put the game out of reach.
- Julia McLennan had the best look of the afternoon for the Lions in the middle of the third, firing a one-timer off a pass from the corner. However, Lakers goaltender Chloe Marshall came up with one of her 29 saves.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Thomson, who played a full 60 minutes, was sharp in goal for York. She had 36 saves, stopping all but four of the shots she faced.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Lions look to host the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in a two-game series on Friday, Nov. 19 when they return to the ice at the Canlan Ice Sports. The puck-drop is scheduled for 7:15 pm.
