Louie Bieman's second period goal stood as the game-winner, as the No. 2 nationally ranked Toronto Varsity Blues held off the York University Lions women's hockey team in a tightly-contested affair, 2-1 at the Varsity Arena in Toronto, Ont.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Early pressure resulted in dividends for the Blues, as they jumped out to an early lead at 5:11 thanks to Celine Frappier's marker.Â
- But York didn't let an opportunity go to waste later in the frame. After Aili McKeown's tripping penalty, Brooke Anderson notched one on the power play on the eve of her 80th game as a Lion. The goal came at 11:40 and tied the game at one.Â
- Bieman would then take the lead for Toronto in the second, and that stood as the game-winning tally.
LOOKING AHEAD
York and Toronto resume action on friendlier turf for the Lions Saturday evening, as the two will tango at Canlan Ice Sports with a 7:15pm puck drop.Â
