The York University Lions men's volleyball team fell to the RMC Paladins in their home opener on Friday evening by a score of 3-1 before a large and boisterous crowd at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

How It Happened

• The Lions got off to a shaky start in the first set as a result of miscommunication and a lack of offensive opportunities. The Paladins, on the other hand, made the most of the Lions' missteps, as they took set one 25-19. 
• After a nail-biting set, the Lions continued to break their way back into the match, at one point tying the game. However, the Paladins continued to outplay the Lions and found new ways to get past the Lions' defence, resulting in a 25-20 set win.
• The Lions were a disruptive force in the third set as they pushed hard to extend the game to another set. On their way to a 25-16 triumph, the team worked together to dismantle the Paladins' defence.
• Following a tense back-and-forth set, the Paladins continued their aggressive approach and finished strong, upsetting the Lions 25-22 in the fourth set.

Notable Numbers

• The Lions were led by Andrew Tauhid who had an astounding 15 of the team's 37 kills, as well as four assists, four digs and a team-high 16.5 points. Jordan Gazzola and Dan Everton both had five kills and two blocks.

The Lions will look to get into the win column on Saturday when they host the Paladins again, beginning at 5pm at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
