The York University Lions men's basketball team was defeated by the Ottawa Gee-Gees by a score of 91-52 at Montpetit Hall in Ottawa on Saturday evening.
Coming off a nail-biting four-point loss on Friday night, the Lions were unable to shoot the ball the same way and took their second loss to start the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions began strong, trading baskets with the Gee-Gees and staying close through the first eight minutes. But the Gee-Gees ultimately outscored the Lions 18-13 in the opening quarter and never looked back, taking each of the four quarters in the game. They led 40-23 at the half.
- York's best quarter came in the fourth, when they scored 18 points. Travon Hamilton and Elias Panagiotopoulos led the team in the final frame with five points apiece.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Prince Kamunga led the Lions in scoring with 11 points and added three rebounds, one assist and one block.
- Also hitting double digits in scoring were Travon Hamilton and Liam Rietschin, who both scored 10 points off the bench. Hamilton also tied for the team lead in rebounds (seven) and Rietschin had four.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Lions are off next weekend and will return to the court on Friday, Nov. 19, when they play their first regular-season games at the Tait McKenzie Centre. Tip-off against the Nipissing Lakers is set for 8pm.
