The York University Lions men's volleyball team returned to their winning ways Friday night at Tait McKenzie Centre. The Lions closed out the first set with a 25-21 victory which gave them the boost needed to win the last two sets by 25-19 and 25-20.
Andrew Tauhid and
Josh Fadare were the leading point-scorers yet again with 13 and 11 kills respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mustangs tested the Lions throughout the entire first set, but the Lions held their composure and closed out the first set with a score of 25-21. The final point was scored by Tauhid who executed the kill from a well-placed set from Jasraj Nijjar.
- In the second set, the Lions held on to their momentum to push for another set-victory by taking an early 4 point lead over the guests. The second set ended with a scoreline of 25-19 to York with Andrew Tauhid once again grabbing the final point to win it for the Lions. The York frontline hitter was the highlight of the set as he recorded eight kills and two blocks in the second set alone.
- The Mustangs fought back in the third set to tie the scoreline on three separate occasions but was ultimately bested by the Lions with a score of 25-20.
- At the 17-17 point tiebreaker, it was Fadare who notched three aces in a row to thrust the Lions back in front for the final time, ultimately leading to a 3-0 win.
LOOKING AHEAD
This match was the first in a series of back-to-back games against the Mustangs. The Lions will now look to claim their fourth win in five games as they host the Mustangs on Saturday, Nov. 19. The game is set to be played at 6 pm.
