LIONS DOUBLED UP BY BOLD AT MATTAMY

The York University Lions and TMU Bold renewed hostilities for the first time this season Friday night at Mattamy Athletic Centre in downtown Toronto.

The Bold got out to an early lead and never looked back en route to a 4-2 win over the Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Bold opened the scoring just past the nine-minute mark of the opening period as Dani Fox took advantage of a Taylor Coward tripping minor to give her club the lead.
  • TMU doubled its lead with about 8:00 left in the second. Alexia Ursua was able to beat Julianna Thompson and make it 2-0 Bold.
  • The Lions, scrappy as they are, were not about to go down without a fight. Sydney Paulson replied for the Lions less than two minutes after the Ursua goal to get the Lions on the board and halve the Bold lead to 2-1. The score remained that way after two.
  • However, it was TMU who took control in the third. A little over two minutes in, Erika Crouse restored the two-goal Toronto Met lead, making it 3-1 in favour of the hosts.
  • Then came the proverbial knockout punch. Five minutes later, Brooke Michaud put the game out of reach with the Bold's fourth of the night, making it 4-1.
  • The Lions got a second late in the third courtest of Lexi Anonech, but that put only but a slight dent in the scoreboard, as the Bold took home a 4-2 win.
  • Lions goaltender Dominique Chuaqui made her OUA debut in goal, playing the final 6:22 of the third period after Thompson was removed from the game.

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions will travel to Oshawa on short rest for a 3:00 pm puck drop against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. This is the first meeting of the year between the two clubs.
