HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set started with York taking the lead early on with five point difference through successful kills from Alisa Trubyuk, Jessica Reynolds and Zvigelsky.
- Zvigelsky committed three successful aces to bring the Lions a level further to a score of 14-5.Â
- In the later stages of the first set, Olivia Kim's six consecutive serves along with some important blocks from Quincy Johnson and Typa helped the Lions see out a convincing 25-11 first set victory.Â
- The second set started out in a similar fashion to the first, with setter Megan McDonald remaining on the serving spot in seven consecutive turns, giving the Lions a 7-1 lead advantage over their opponents.
- The Lions then stretched their lead to 21-7 when the front three of Ella Rohani, Tyneille Swaby and Typa showed that there's quality on all fronts of the team with successful spikes and tips to nullify their opponents.Â
- The third set started out more competitively than the previous two with RMC pushing to get back into the game. However York's important dig saves and blocks, along with important spikes from Endes made sure that the Paladins never took the lead.
- Just as it was looking like RMC might gain their momentum to bring the game to a 17-21 tussle, the Lions' outside hitters Brooklyn Parliament and Typa scored the final decisive points to make sure York held on to their victory, with a final score of 25-17.Â
Â
York's next opponents are the Toronto Varsity Blues. The Lions will visit their geographical rivals, a perennial OUA contender, with a point to prove after plenty of closely contested games in 2021-22.. The game will be played on Thursday, Nov. 10, with the game time set at 6 pm.Â
