LIONS FINISH OTTAWA TRIP WITH LOSS TO GEE-GEES

The York University Lions women's basketball team dropped its second straight game to a team from the nation's capital, this time to the Ottawa Gee-Gees 74-55. After outsourcing the Gee-Gees in the second quarter, the Lions failed to keep up the momentum, eventually faltering in the second half of the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Cyanna King scored the game's first bucket with a lay-up on the game's first possession. The opening five minutes had the teams go back and forth before Ottawa's Natsuki Szczokin hit several shots which helped in giving the home side an eight-point lead after one quarter of play
  • Kiara Leveridge knocked down York's first 3-pointer of the game at the start of the second quarter it remained their only made three of the game. The Lions cut the Gee-Gees' lead to five at the break.
  • Ottawa out-scored the Lions 18-10 in the third quarter, increasing their advantage to 13. The Gee-Gees were dominant on the glass and exploited the Lions backcourt on the offensive end.
  • The final quarter had the Lions find it difficult to break down Ottawa's defense, mainly scoring from free throws when being fouled in the paint. The Gee-Gees continued to play efficient offensive basketball and walked away with a 19-point win.
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Lauren Golding managed a double-double, notching 19 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Bridgette Lefebvre-Okanku of the Gee-Gees led the game in scoring with 24 while grabbing nine boards and coming up with four steals.
  • The Lions shot 82.4 percent from the free throw line, which accounted for 14 of their points
