Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

THIRD PERIOD COMEBACK CARRIES RAMS PAST LIONS

Three late goals by the No. 10 nationally-ranked Rams sunk the York University Lions men's hockey Saturday night, as they fell short in a tight contest, 4-3.

The loss is yet another one-goal loss for the Lions in an array of narrow defeats in their last six games. Four of their six straight losses have been decided by one goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first period got off to a competitive start with both teams earning a flurry of scoring opportunities, but defenders stood tall, resulting in a scoreless first period. The Rams had a 9-5 shooting advantage over the Lions.
  • Excellent defence led to an even better offensive output for York on their first goal of the game. At one end of the ice, an acrobatic save by Cole Ceci led to a rush of offensive pressure on the other, and CJ Clarke made no mistake in finding the back of the net. Lucas Breault drew an assist on the play.
  • Shortly after, Ryan Wells finds the back of the Lions net and puts the Rams on board to the tie game 1-1 at 12:36. However, Brendon Browne wasted no time in regaining the lead for the Lions, as he ripes the puck past the Rams netminder, Garrett Forrest to give them a 2-1 lead at the end of the second period.
  • That cued the Rams' comeback. Domenico Commisso tied up the game at 2-2 with a slap shot past Ceci. Soon after, the Rams added to their lead with a goal from Jeremiah Addison at 12:18 to take a 3-2 lead.
  • Two minutes later, the Lions tied it back up as Ben Evanish found his way past the Rams defenders to make it 3-3. With three minutes left in the period, Jesse Barwell makes no mistake in shooting the game-winner and handing the Rams their seventh win of the season.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • Ceci was outstanding in net for the entire game, playing the complete 60 minutes and making 23 saves.
  • Addison had a multi-point night with a goal and an assist.
LOOKING AHEAD

The Lions look ahead to a home-ice match-up at Canlan Ice Sports on Feb. 18. Puck drop against the Toronto Varsity Blues is set for 7:15 pm.
