A big first set win for the York University Lions men's volleyball team wasn't enough to secure a win over the No. 4 nationally ranked Toronto Varsity Blues. They battled back with three set wins of their own, handing York a 3-1 loss on home court Wednesday night at Tait McKenzie Centre.
The loss drops York's record to 2-6 on the 2021-22 campaign.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After watching the Lions women's team go toe-to-toe with undefeated Toronto in the first game of the night's doubleheader, the men's volleyball team came out with a ton of energy in the first set. With the set score tied 5-5, Andrew Tauhid came up with back to back service aces to vault York into a lead, and they didn't look back.Â
- However, Toronto responded with a 25-22 set win in a second-set comeback, before earning a convincing 25-17 win in the third set. They ended the game with another tight contest -- finishing 25-22 again.
LOOKING AHEAD
- These two teams will know each other well by the end of the weekend. They play once again back at Tait McKenzie Centre this Saturday, with the game beginning at 4:30 pm.
