BREAULT’S LATE GOAL CAPS OFF DRAMATIC THIRD PERIOD COMEBACK, SENDS LIONS TO PLAYOFFS

Lucas Breault's third-period goal not only came as the game-winner but also guaranteed a place in the OUA East playoffs for the York University Lions men's hockey team. The Lions battled their way back from a 2-1 deficit in the third period, scoring both the game-tying and go-ahead goals in the final frame.

The Lions headed to the Mattamy Athletic Centre to avenge their 9-1 loss to the Rams on Wednesday night, and they did just that with the comeback win – their first against the Rams since the 2017-18 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cavin Leth put the Rams on the board first at 5:42 slipping past Cole Ceci in the Lions' net. Not long after, CJ Clarke and Xavier Pouliot took advantage a power play, finding Brock McLeod who tied the score at 1-1 with his second goal in as many games.
  • However, Cole Resnick wasted no time in the second period to make it a 2-1 game, scoring his first of the season at 2:20. That score would bold until the intermission.
  • After a nail-biting period for the Lions, with Ceci stopping 18 shots in the third to keep the game within reach for the Lions, Owen Gilhula would score his third goal of the campaign and once again knot the contest at 2-2.
  • As things were getting tenser nearing the end of regulation, Breault got an immaculate feed from Brendon Browne and fired it past Garrett Forrest with just under five minutes remaining in regulation to carry them into the post-season.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • Ceci had himself a game as he was all over the place defending his territory, saving 47 of the 49 shots he faced over the course of a full 60 minutes.
LOOKING AHEAD

The victory carries the Lions to the OUA playoffs, and they now await their competitor. They will face the first seed in the OUA East, which will either be the Windsor Lancers or the Rams based on tiebreakers. Windsor still has one game remaining.
