Emma Jonas kept the score close with a game-high 19 points, but couldn't carry the York University Lions women's basketball team to a victory over the No. 9 nationally ranked Queen's Gaels Saturday afternoon in Kingston, Ont.
They staged a 16-point comeback in the second half, but ultimately fell 48-47 in a game that came down to the final possession. The loss snapped the team's five-game winning streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gaels opened up a large lead in the first three quarters, holding the Lions to just over 20 points through that point of the game. They had a 39-23 lead through that point.
- However, York then outscored Queen's 19-3 to tie the game at 42 in the fourth quarter.
- Queen's would hold off the Lions long enough in the game's later stages to preserve a one-point advantage and take the victory, improving to 8-4 on the season.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Outside of the 19 Jonas points, Kiara Leveridge had 11, going 3-4 from the line.
