LIONS SEASON ENDS WITH LOSS TO QUEEN'S AT HOME

The Queen's University Gaels defeated the Lions 4-0 on Saturday evening to split the home-and-home series this week at Canlan Ice Sports.

Despite an excellent battle in which the Lions outshot the Gaels 38-15, the Lions fell short and are now eliminated from OUA playoff contention. York finishes fifth in the OUA East Division with a record of 3-12-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The opening period ended scoreless, but featured plenty of York scoring opportunities as the home side carried the majority of play. The Lions outshot the Gaels 13-5 in the period.
  • The Lions continued to outshoot the Gaels 10-5 in the second, however, Kelsey Dunn found the Lions net to put the Gaels up one. She made a quick move at the line, driving a point shot straight into the back of the net for a power play goal at 13:46.
  • The Lions opened the third with a 9-0 shot advantage over Queen's but couldn't solve the netminder. However, Alexandra Maw and Scout Watkins Southward both found an opening and added two more insurance goals for the Gaels. The first one at 11:03 and the second at 13:59.
  • Southward sealed the win with her second of the night into an empty net.
