LIONS WRAP UP BACK-TO-BACK WITH CONVINCING WIN OVER WARRIORS

ARPAN KAUR // yorkulions.ca

The York University Lions women's soccer team put in another tremendous showing on Sunday afternoon, stretching their undefeated streak to four games.

Coming off from a solid home win against the Waterloo Warriors on Thursday, the Lions emulated that performance, defeating the Warriors 5-0 at Warrior Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • York opened the scoring in the 32nd minute game on a goal from the rookie, Nia Fleming, who netted her second goal of the season – both coming against the Warriors.
  • Five minutes later, Maia Torelli found the back of the Warriors' net, as she scored her first goal of the season.
  • Paige De Santo added a tally of her own right before the halftime whistle, extending the lead 3-0.
  • The Lions continued their dominance over the Warriors in the second half, as Darcy Faichnie found a way to slide one past Hannah Petrosino in the 52nd minute.
  • That was quickly followed by Valentina Khan's goal in the 57th minute which capped off the scoring for the Lions at 5-0.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • Patricia Vrysellas earned her fourth consecutive clean sheet to start the season for the Lions, stopping all 17 shots on target she has faced thus far on the year.
  • Lions outshot the Warriors 14-7.
Looking Ahead:

The Lions wrap up their two-game road trip as they head to Guelph to take on the Gryphons in a home-and-home affair on Friday, Sept. 23 at 6 pm. They then return home on Sunday, Sept. 25 for game two of the back-to-back.
