For the second time in three weeks, the No. 1 nationally-ranked York University Lions soccer team is the best in the country. They've won five of their first six games, and have yet to come out on the wrong side of the scoreline.
Â
After another solid 2-0 win over Guelph on Sunday, the Lions welcome in the Algoma Thunderbirds for two games this weekend. Algoma is on the complete opposite end of the OUA spectrum, having gone winless in six games while not scoring a single goal.

LIONS TO WATCH
- #13 MUDASER MUHTAJ: 1st-year midfielder… Has scored twice for the Lions this season… The only Lion not named Isaac Bradbury or Soji Olatoye to have more than one goal to his credit… Although he hasn't been flashy, he has a heck of a nose for the net, at least so far… Both his shots on target have been goals… Coincidence? Maybe. Against an Algoma team that gives up goals in bunches, however, he's not been someone you want to give a clean look at goal.Â
- #14 SAMMY SSEBADUKA: 1st-year midfielder… Scored his first career OUA goal, on a beautiful run from the midfield to the top of the box, ending with a left-footed strike…. Was named York male athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 25… Has had plenty of chances, with seven shots so far, which is tied for fourth on the Lions…Tied for the club lead in shots on target with all seven he's taken hitting the net… Could be poised for a breakout nearing the midway point of his rookie season.
- #28 MATTHEW MOLLICOLA: 1st-year forward… Netted his first career OUA tally in the 56th minute of Sunday's win over Guelph to add some insurance for the Lions… Has for shots on target so far this season, and has impact has been noticeable for the Lions despite his lack of overall production… Is another depth piece the Lions will rely on for secondary scoring as the season progresses.
