LIONS CAN'T END MCMASTER'S PERFECT SEASON, FALL IN FOUR TO MARAUDERS

The York University Lions men's volleyball team were in tough against the country's only undefeated team, and, despite giving them everything they had, ultimately dropped a four-setter to the McMaster Marauders. The Lions lost the first set before taking the second McMaster then took the third set, and wore the Lions down in the fourth to take the match 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lions stood toe-to-toe with McMaster early. Their attacking play through the middle gave the Marauders some trouble, but McMaster took control in the latter stages of the set, winning it 25-20.
  • Early in the second, Jasraj Nijjar nailed an ace to make it 4-2 and give the Lions some breathing room
  • The Lions then took a five-point lead thanks in part to the frontline of Dennis Cota, Andrew Tauhid and Luke de Greeff shutting out the tall spikes of McMaster. York went on to take the second set 25-23, equalizing the game at 1-1.
  • In the third set the Marauders took an early lead as the Lions chased the scoreboard from the get-go. McMaster. They battled back into it late, but McMaster was the beneficiary of some close calls that flipped the set, and they took it 25-21 to go up 2-1.
  • The fourth set was a clinic from the Marauders, who, at one point, led 22-8. The Lions added some points late, but Mac took the set 25-13 to seal the four-set victory.
  • The loss drops the Lions behind the Guelph Gryphons in the OUA standings down to 6th place at 8-5.
