Madalyn Weinert's career-high 34-point performance powered the Brock Badgers to a 69-62 win over the York University Lions women's basketball team Saturday night at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With a tight first quarter and both teams tied at 10 with 4:35 remaining in the quarter, the Lions opened up the first substantial lead of the game with an 11-5 run, grabbing a 21-15 lead at the end of the first.
- Despite a tight 17-15 second quarter, the Lions managed to pull away on the back of Jada Codrington's 10-point first-half effort and two clutch back-to-back three-pointers adding onto their 38-30 edge at halftime.
- The Badgers were able to put together a much more productive third quarter, tightening up their defence and outshooting the Lions 17-6. Owing to an 11-point quarter performance from Weinert, the Badgers took the lead for the first time since their 2-0 lead in the opening quarter. Â
- With the Badgers owning a 47-44 edge after the third frame, they continued their hot hand into the final quarter, putting up 22 points. The Lions would still be as close as within three points with just under four minutes remaining, however, the Badgers proved to be unstoppable.Â
- Despite Cordrington's seven-point effort in the final two minutes of the contest, it was not enough to put away the Badgers, as Brock cruised to a 69-62 victory. Â
