The York University Lions women's soccer team hosted the McMaster Marauders on Sunday night at York Lions Stadium looking to rebound from a tough loss to the Marauders on Friday.
They were able to do just that thanks to a pair of first-half finishes from Dylana Makarowski and Maia Torelli just two minutes apart to earn a 2-0 victory and snap a three-match winless streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game began with both teams showing well defensively, with neither side allowing the other much offensively.
- In the 24th minute, the Lions seized a pivotal moment as Dylana Makarowski found the back of the net off a corner – the proverbial 'Olympico,' securing the match's first goal and a Lions lead.
- Just moments later, in the 26th minute, the Lions extended their advantage with a sensational goal. York's Maia Torelli delivered a precise strike past the McMaster keeper to make it 2-0 York.
- In the 65th minute, the Marauders had a great scoring opportunity, but York's goalkeeper, Charlotte Phillips, made an impressive save to keep them off the board.
- Ultimately, the Lions prevailed 2-0 with an outstanding performance to earn a much-needed win.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions will face the Guelph Gryphons on their home turf next Friday, October 13, at York Lions Stadium. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
