The York University Field Hockey team faced off against the Queen's Gaels in the second leg of the final home-and-home matchup on Sunday afternoon. In their last regular season contest, and game to celebrate the graduating Lion seniors
Lexi Hannah and
Alyssa Brooks, York defeated the Gaels 2-1.
With the final win of the regular season, York University secured the OUA East divisions top seed heading into playoffs, with a record of 9-1. Hannah finishes the regular season at the top of the OUA standings with 10 goals and 22 points, determined to lead her squad to the Championships in back-to-back seasons.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Gaels came out quick from the opening whistle, but the Lions defense remained strong no tallowing Queen's any opportunities on target.
- Opening the second quarter, OUA leading scorer Lexi Hannah was quick to find the back of the net off an Elyse Ives pass, giving the Lions the lead.
- The third quarter remained tight with the Lions producing dangerous offensive chances to keep the Gaels on their toes, but the scoreline remained the same.
- With 5 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Queen's Maryn Unger leveled the scoreline
- In a last minute offensive push, the Lions won a penalty corner, allowing Natalie Winter to capitalize on a loose ball and lead her team to a 2-1 victory.

The Lions will await the rest of the results from the remaining OUA games to determine who they will face in the OUA playoffs on Oct. 21.
