FIRST PLACE IN OUA WEST ON THE LINE AS LIONS BATTLE BADGERS TO CAP REGULAR SEASON

The York University Lions men's soccer team are set to face-off against the Brock Badgers in a crucial home-and-home of the final weekend of regular season play, and Sunday's home grad game. After dropping Friday's nights contest to the Guelph Gryphons, the Lions sit in second place in the OUA West, 2 points behind the No. 1 Brock Badgers. Securing 6 points this weekend will clinch the top seed for the Lions and hosting an OUA playoff game; a loss will shake up the standings.

On Friday evening the Lions faced off against the Guelph Gryphons at York Lions Stadium in search of three important points as the end of the season is in sight. From the opening whistle, the game was back-and-forth with both teams creating chances, but not finding their finishing touch. It was not until the 38th minute that the visiting Gryphons put one past Alessio Carbone to lead 1-0 entering half-time. Chris Melino worked hard in the oppositions half, coming up short on a header sent just wide of the target in extra time, with the Gryphons securing the victory 1-0.
