The York University Lions football team travelled to Windsor on Saturday afternoon to close out their 2023 season.
The 5-2 Lancers closed their regular season in style with a 69-0 win. They will now host the Carleton Ravens in the OUA quarter-finals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lancers took a 14-0 lead after one on touchdown receptions from Shane Johnson and Ben McJannet.
- Windsor added another 18 points in the second quarter on two touchdowns and a pair of safeties. Quarterback Danny Skelton threw four touchdowns in the opening half for the hosts, who led 32-0 at the break.
- The Lancers put up 23 points in the third and 14 more in the fourth en route to their season-capping victory.
- The lone offensive bright spot for the Lions was running back Melchis Ilunga, who ran for 53 yards on 13 carries.
- Defensively, Sterling May registered a sack, while Karil Nairi and Brandon Davies-Lyons earned tackles for losses for York.
LOOKING AHEAD:
York will now shift focus to 2024, and will do so without graduates Braden Hart, Jason Janvier-Messier, Hunter Bannon, Lerone Lindsay and Nathan Brennan who played their last games as Lions on Saturday.
