LIONS SUFFER SECOND-STRAIGHT ONE GOAL LOSS IN 2-1 DEFEAT AT WESTERN

Following a tough loss in their season opener to Windsor on Friday, the York University Lions women's hockey team had little time to dwell, as. they headed onto London, Western Mustangs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Mustangs took the early lead just beyond the 5:00 mark of the opening period on a goal by Haylie Kirkpatrick.
  • Western took a 2-0 advantage before the period was out, as Alyssa Wouda beat Dominique Chuaqui.
  • After a scoreless second, York's Taylor Coward narrowed the gap with her first of the new season, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
  • Despite outshooting the Mustangs 9-6 in the final frame, the Lions couldn't find the tying goal, and the Mustangs skated away with a 2-1 win. In spite of the loss, Chuaqui made 26 saves on 28 shots.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions are gearing up for their home opener against their bitter rivals, the Toronto Varsity Blues, at Canlan Sports on Friday, October 27. Puck drop slated at 7:15 p.m.
