Playing at home for the first time since November 3rd, the York University Lions men's basketball team looked to get back above .500 on the season with a win over the West-division-leading Western Mustangs in front of a raucous crowd at Tait McKenzie Centre in what was the first of two home games this weekend, After an evenly-matched first half, a dominant third quarter by the Mustangs was too much for the Lions to overcome in a 92-81 loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- An action-packed first quarter saw the Lions and Mustangs going basket for basket as the visitors led 23-21 after one.
- It was more of the same in the second quarter, as neither team managed to pull away from the other. York was led in the first half by Liam Rietschin while the Mustangs were paced by Tyson Dunn, each with 12 points. The game entered halftime tied 43-43.
- The Mustangs looked like a completely different team in the third quarter, out-scoring the Lions 30-13 in the frame to take a 73-56 lead to the fourth..
- The Mustangs led by as many as 20 in the fourth before the Lions finished the game on an 11-2 run, but that wasn't enough, as the Mustangs took it by a score of 92-81 for the Mustangs, led by Dunn's game-high 20 points.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions look to quickly regroup as they face the Windsor Lancers tomorrow, Saturday, November. 18 at 8:00pm. The game will take place at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
