LIONS BATTLE IN TOUGH-LUCK LOSS TO BROCK

The York University Lions men's basketball team had hopes of securing their second consecutive victory of the season on Saturday night against the Brock Badgers. However, those aspirations were dashed as the visiting Lions came up just short, with the Badgers prevailing 76-69 on Saturday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium in St. Catherines, Ont.

The Lions were led by one of their many new transfers,, Evan Shadkami (Toronto) who had an impressive 22-point. Fellow new-comers Joshua Noton and Jahlijah Grant each contributed 14 points in a losing cause.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Lions got off to a hot start, racing off to a 14-7 run in the first five minutes of action. Not long after, the Badgers quickly countered with a 9-4 run, trimming the deficit to 18-16 after one quarter.
  • The Badgers seized their first lead of the game at the 6:54 mark of the second when Kevaughn Ellis sank a three-pointer. However, this lead was short-lived, as Elias Panagiotopoulos and Shadkami swiftly responded with their own three-pointers, giving the Lions a 27-23 edge with three minutes left in the quarter.
  • Panagiotopoulos went 3-4 from beyond the arc in the frame, staking York to a 37-29 lead at recess.
  • Brock came out strong in the third, piecing together a 10-2 run that saw them take control of the game. This run set the tone for the remainder of the quarter, with the Badgers taking a 55-48 lead into the final frame.
  • The Lions began the fourth on a 15-7 run to grab a 63-62 lead just over halfway through the fourth. However, the Badgers responded, closing the game on a 14-6 run of their own to earn a 76-69 win and even the Lions record at 1-1.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions will head to Lakehead next weekend to battle the Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay. The two-game series begins Friday, Nov. 10, with tip-off slated for 8:00 pm.
