The York University Lions women's basketball team dropped its second contest of the season to the Brock Badgers Saturday night. While the game emerged competitive in the first half, the Badgers ultimately seized control in the third quarter and secured a decisive 82-51 victory at the Bob Davis Gymnasium in St. Catharines.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game commenced with an opening jump shot from the Lions veteran, Kiara Leveridge. Subsequently, the Badgers embarked on a 9-0 scoring run, propelling Brock into a 9-2 lead within the first three minutes of play.
- York mounted a comeback in the later stages of the quarter, ignited by a Gabriella Di Pietro three-pointer, followed by a Bilan Khadar lay-up, levelling the score at 13 with just over two minutes left in the quarter. Brock led 16-15 after one.
- In the second, Leveridge carried her momentum from the first quarter, beginning by sinking free throws to level the score at 16-16. A Katie Leudy layup and a Khadar jumper gave the Lions a 25-18 lead Later in the quarter, a three by Jamie Addy allowed Brock to take a 31-29 lead as the quarter concluded. Leveridge led the way with 12 points at halftime.
- The Badgers began the second half 17-3 run to help establish a 55-42 Brock advantage at the end of the third quarter.
- Their Badgers didn't let up in the fourth, outshooting the Lions 27-9, resulting in a convincing 82-51 victory.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions will be back in action and looking for their first win when they fly to Thunder Bay to play a two-game series against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The first game is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 10 with a 6:00 pm tip-off.
