The York University Lions women's basketball team was once again in tough on Saturday night, this time at the hands of the top-ranked team in the country and defending national champions, the Carleton Ravens.
The Lions hung with Carleton early, but were eventually downed 107-41.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both teams engaged in a closely contested first quarter, trading baskets in the opening minutes. However, it was the Ravens who seized control first, orchestrating a 9-0 run and securing a 17-8 lead with 4:56 left in the opening quarter. Despite 11 points from Kiara Leveridge, the Lions found themselves trailing 23-15 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
- Carleton opened the second frame on a 12-0 run in the first five minutes, They went on to outscore the Lions 27-7 in the quarter, and led 50-22 at halftime.
- The Ravens then outscored the Lions 29-8 quarter and 28-10 in the fourth en route to a 107-41 victory.
- Leveridge led the Lion offence with 23 points to go along with six rebounds.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions will resume play in the new year following the holiday break, facing the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, Jan. 6 in Hamilton. The first tip-off of 2024 is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
