LIONS GO DOWN TO DEFEAT IN GUELPH

The York University Lions women's hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Julia Cuccia opened the scoring  for the Lions early in the second. Ava Ricker-Singh and Alexa Giantsopoulos drew the assists on Cuccia's third of the season to make it 1-0.
  • Guelph ties the game four minutes later as Abby Davies banged home a rebound on a shot from long range shot by Meaghan Chittick. That tied it at 1-1.
  • Guelph took the lead with one second to go in the period on a goal from Hannah Tait as the Gryphons took a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
  • In the third, it was all Guelph, as they scored four times in the final frame. Goals from Vanessa Bueti, Maya Graham, Rylee Davison and Katherine Heard solidified a 6-1 Guelph victory and handed York its second straight loss.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions will host their annual grad game on Friday, Feb. 17 against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. Puck drop from Canlan Ice Sports is set for 7:15 pm.
