Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

LIONS EDGED BY TOP-RANKED QUEEN’S DESPITE VALIANT EFFORT IN HOME FINALE

The York Lions women's basketball team played out their last home game of the regular season against the Queen's Gaels, and a fourth-quarter comeback by the 19-1 Gaels gave them a 74-68 victory Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Lions record now moves to 8-12. They are in a tie with the Laurentian Voyageurs for 11th overall in the OUA, and one game ahead of the Laurier Golden Hawks for the final playoff spot in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The final home game of the regular season for York's graduating players did not disappoint and produced some excellent moments of basketball. The Lions kept the Gaels at bay, fiercely battling them with an even scoreline throughout the entire game.
  • It wasn't until the last two minutes of the fourth quarter where the Gaels built their lead, ultimately ending the game.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Lions briefly took the lead through quick passing play between Cyanna King and Bilan Khadar. However with two minutes remaining to the game, the Gaels stormed back, taking a six-point lead to ultimately win the game
  • Kiara Leveridge led the way for York, posting a team-high 22 points on the day. Graduating forward Lauren Golding scored 12 points on the night to cap a terrific career with the Lions. Bilan Khadar had a game to remember as she scored 18 points, including two from beyond the arc.
LOOKING AHEAD

Still hanging on for a chance to continue their season, the Lions will now visit the OUA West-leading Waterloo Warriors this Wednesday, Feb. 15.
