With the dawn of a new season came the dawn of a new era of York University Lions football, as the red and white hosted the two-time defending Yates Cup champion Western Mustangs in the debut of Nathaniel Griffith and Brian Jones as associate head coaches.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Mustangs wasted no time in asserting their dominance, with their offense making quick work of the Lions defense throughout the opening quarter Western scored a trifecta of touchdowns in the first and took a 21-0 lead after one.
- .It was more of the same in the second, as the Mustangs put up 31 points in the frame, and held a 52-0 lead at halftime
- The Lions offence showed some flashes in the second half, but were unable to put any points on the board, their best chance to score being snuffed out by an interception on the goal line.
- Western continued their offensive blitz over the final two quarters as they tallied another four touchdowns and a field goal, en-route to a 83-0 victory.
