LIONS START NEW STREAK, MOVE ATOP OUA WEST WITH WIN OVER MCMASTER

In a clash between the top two teams in the OUA West, the second-place York University Lions men's soccer team and the division-leading McMaster Marauders engaged in a fierce battle for tops in the division

The Marauders entered Friday's match one point up on York for tops in the division. However, thanks to Jaytin Pabla's game-winning goal in the 43rd minute to top the Marauders 1-0. As a result, the Lions move atop the West, two points up ahead of the Marauders with a 5-1-2 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The match kicked off with some tightly-contested, back-and-forth play. York held a slight edge in shots at 3-2.
  • A pivotal moment unfolded in the 41st minute when McMaster's Justin Wood was shown a red card, leaving McMaster to play with 10 men. Seizing this advantage, York's Jaytin Pabla found an opening past the Marauders defence, and netted his first goal of the season to put York on the board just minutes before halftime.
  • The tenacity and resilience from both ends were evident, as the score remained unaltered throughout the second half. Despite McMaster's attempts, Alessio Carbone stood strong between the posts for York, holding the home side scoreless in the 90 minutes of action.
  • Pabla's lone goal made all the difference for York, leading them to a 1-0 victory at full-time whistle.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions will look to continue their winning ways and vault further ahead of McMaster when they return to their home turf to take on these same Marauders on Sunday night in the second leg of their home-and-home series. Action begins at 8:15 pm from York Lions Stadium.
