Following their shocking 3-1 loss to the Waterloo Warriors in the 2022 OUA quarter-finals, the York University Lions men's soccer team was eager to exact some revenge. They did exactly that Thursday night, as fate would have it, by that same scoreline in front of a boisterous crowd during York's Frenzy Rewind night at the York Lions Stadium.
The Lions were led by a dominant performance from Tyler Attardo. The rookie forward scored all three goals for the Lions, following up his game-winning goal against Laurier in style and running his goal total to four on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lions outshot Waterloo 7-1 in the first 45 minutes, with the Lions owning the brunt of the possession, but the match remained goalless nearing halftime.
- York finally bore the fruit of its labour in the 42nd minute, as Attardo brilliantly converted a cross from Jaytin Pabla to put York up one just minutes before the halftime whistle.
- The Warriors responded early in the second half with the equalizer off the foot of Aleksandar Dmitrovic. His marker in the 48th minute squared things at one apiece.
- In the 55th minute, Attardo tallied his second of the night as he sliced through the Warriors defence to put the Lions back in control with a 2-1 advantage.
- Then, in the 77th Attardo once again tickled the twne for his third goal of the night with a beautiful strike to seal the Lions their second-straight victory.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions will continue to keep their winning streak alive as they head on a five-game road trip. The team is right back at it on Saturday, Sept. 9, where they will look to take on the Windsor Lancers, with kickoff scheduled for 3:15 pm in Windsor.
