In a clash between two sides on a quest for their first victory of the 2023 OUA season, the York University Lions women's soccer team faced off against the Waterloo Warriors. Unfortunately for the home side, their first win will have to wait, as the visitors emerged triumphant with a 1-0 victory over the Lions on Thursday evening at the York Lions Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game began with both teams vying for control, but it was the Warriors who drew first blood. In an unexpected turn of events, Ceci Mejia caught Ava Jones by surprise with a pretty finish in the 30th minute to put her team up 1-0.
- As the first half neared its conclusion, the Lions' pushed forward with Erica Di Matteo and Maia Torelli launching threatening attempts on goal. However, they were unable to find a way past Natalie Mouradian, leaving the Lions trailing 1-0 as the halftime whistle blew.
- Sabrina Fabiano initiated the second half with a promising attempt on goal, but her shot found the bottom of the post instead keeping the score 1-0.
- The rest of the second half saw the Lions fight fiercely to mount a comeback, but the Warriors' defence held strong, securing the 1-0 victory.

The Lions will look to end their three-match winless streak, as they prepare to embark on a five-game road trip. The first stop is Windsor,, where they will battle the West division-leading Windsor Lancers on Saturday, Sept. 9. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
