The York University Lions women's hockey team headed to North Bay to face the OUA East top ranked Nipissing Lakers. The Lions pushed the tough sided Lakers into overtime to decide a game winner, but came up short in the final minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- York was prepared to face their tough opponent and took the game to the Lakers from the get go. Julia Cuccia opened the scoring for York off a feed from Abby Hicks and Alexa Giantsopoulos to give the Lions the 1-0 lead heading into the second.
- Within 59 seconds of the second period, the Lakers evened the score after squeaking one past Emma Wedgewood.
- The relentless offence of the Lions continued their surge up ice, taking the lead back almost a minute later. Jenn Shaw sloted one by the Lakers goaltender Jordan Sladics, securing the Lions second lead of the evening.
- The Lakers continued their pressure and with just under five minutes remaining in the second period, the equalized on a power play opportunity.
- A shutout third period pushed the game into overtime to decide a winner, but the Lions took a penalty to put the Lakers on the man advantage.
- Using the additional player to their advantage, Nipissing's Katie Chomiak scored the game winning goal to secure a 3-2 victory over York.

The Lions and Lakers will face off once again on Saturday evening, this time on York's home ice, at Canlan Ice Sports. Puck drops at 4:15 pm.
