Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

LEVERIDGE'S 12 POINT THIRD QUARTER NOT ENOUGH AS MARAUDERS DEFEAT LIONS

In hopes of rounding out the weekend with a victory, the York University Lions women's basketball team took on the McMaster Marauders at home on Saturday evening. Kiara Leveridge led the way for the Lions in the second half of the game, but her scoring surge couldn't elevate her team over the strong defence of the Marauders.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • York won the ball of the tip off and got down court quickly to secure the first two points of the game, but the Marauders battled to quickly take the lead. Bilan Khadar sunk a three-point basket but McMasters Jenna Button was a steady offensive force recording 12 points to put her team ahead 25-15 after the first quarter.
  • The Lions worked to level out the playing field, having a fairly equal second quarter with both teams managing to score back-and-forth points and the Marauders took the 40-28 lead at half.
  • Kiara Leveridge stood out in the third quarter settling herself and her red and white side into the game as she went 5-7 in field goals and 2-3 from the free throw line, but the Lions continued to trail heading into the final quarter of action, 55-43.
  • Alexis Grewal tried to work the Lions back into the game late in the final quarter, sinking two three-point shots and getting one down from the free throw line. McMaster's 21 points in the fourth quarter added to their lead as they defeated the Lions 76-55.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions are heading North to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs and Nipissing Lakers next weekend. The first match-up will come against Laurentian on Jan. 26 at 6:00 pm.
