LIONS FALL SHORT TO RAVENS IN HIGH-SCORING AFFAIR

The York University Lions men's hockey team put up a valiant effort but came up short in a 6-4 loss to the Carleton Ravens on Friday night at the Ice House in Ottawa.

Carleton opened the scoring just over two minutes in with Reese Belton capitalizing on the power play. York responded swiftly when Jayden McCarthy found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 five minutes later, with Connor Senken and Ethan Strik drawing the assists.

The Ravens then surged ahead with three unanswered goals in the period, including two from Gio Morneau, giving Carleton a commanding 4-1 lead. The Lions added a late-period tally from Logan Holm to cut the lead to 4-2 after a high-octane opening period.

The middle frame saw Madoka Suzuki extended Carleton's lead early in the second, but Lucas Theriault kept the Lions in striking distance, scoring his first of two on the night at the 9:01 mark, bringing York back within two at 5-3 after two.

Theriault struck again just beyond the opening minute of thie third to trim the lead to 5-4, with Thomas Lacombe and Strik adding assists. However, a late goal from Andrew Hunt midway through the final frame sealed what was a 6-4 Ravens victory.

York went 1-for-7 on the power play, with Theriault's first goal coming during a man advantage. Goalie Matt Tovell faced 24 shots and made 18 saves in the loss, while Carleton's Tye Austin turned aside 17 of 21 shots to secure the win.
