CHU, ENDES NAMED Z-TECA MEXCIAN EATERY YORK ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR PERIOD ENDING NOV. 17

York University Lions men's hockey goaltender Alex Chu and women's volleyball player Amarai Endes have been named the latest York athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 17.

Chu, a first-year netminder from Markham, Ont., was spectacular in his first ever OUA start. Dressing in place of the injured Carter Serhyenko, Chu made 36 saves in a 2-1 overtime loss on to the Queen's Gaels on Saturday night. Among them were a tremendous sprawling save early in the first period and a great save on an overtime breakaway from Queen's' Derek Hamilton.

Chu had previously seen action in a couple of relief appearances against the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Oct. 13 and in a non-conference game against the Western Michigan Broncos on Oct. 19.

Endes, a fourth-year middle blocker from Toronto, Ont., played nearly picture-perfect volleyball in the Lions two five-set triumphs over Ottawa in the nation's capital last weekend. Over the two matches, the environmental biology major combined for 23 kills on 48 attacks, while making only one attack error in the two games. Endes was superb at the net, particularly in Saturday's win, in which she was involved in eight block points in addition to three others on Friday night.

Endes and the Lions now get set to face the Queen's Gaels – led by former assistant coach Shanice Marcelle – in a two-game series this weekend at Tait McKenzie Centre, headlined by Saturday's Dig for the Cure game. First serve times are 6:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
